New 911s are always going to get us interested, The Porsche stand features the latest Turbo model, a new GT3 RS and a limited edition Sport Classic.
What’s all the fuss about?
All those 911s pretty much complete the model range, giving Porsche fans a huge choice of derivatives to choose from. The Turbo heads the line-up, its 3.8-litre flat-six engine being larger than before, clever torque vectoring technology making it even quicker. With 500bhp on tap, the all-wheel drive Turbo can sprint to 62mph in just 3.4 seconds, while using less fuel and emitting less CO2 than its predecessor.
The GT3 RS is a completely different proposition, it a stripped, hardcore racer for the road. Built to allow Porsche to race the 911, Porsche’s customers recognise that the letters RS add lightness, speed and agility. And a lot of stickers in the case of the Frankfurt show car…
The Sport Classic is for those who want their modern 911 with some classic touches, Porsche adding a ducktail spoiler and some Fuchs-style alloys along with more power. Strictly limited numbers mean this model will become a sought after machine among collectors, Porsche charging a hefty £140,000 for the lucky few who can afford it.
Anything that stands out?
The stickers on the GT3 RS certainly do, though otherwise the Porsche debutants could easily be missed. Thank the firm’s gentle evolutionary approach to styling for that, all three new 911s looking little different to the existing range and the models they replace.
When can I buy one?
You’ll need to be quick to get your hands on that Sport Classic as Porsche’s customers typically snap up anything built in limited numbers as soon as it’s announced. The Turbo (and its Cabriolet relative) and the GT3 RS are all available to order now. The longest wait is likely to be for the RS, though we’re absolutely certain every minute waiting for it to arrive will be worth it.
