Race drivers in host countries Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago have already made their presence felt in the 2015 Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) . . . and soon it will be the turn of Barbados! Preparations are already under way for round three of the regional contest, which will be the feature event at the Williams Industries Digicel International Race Meet at Bushy Park on September 12/13.

Just as Jamaica, which hosted the first round at the Jamwest Raceway in March, started the season leading the CMRC Country Championship, so T&T’s Team Tigers has now shifted the balance; after scoring around half the total points awarded at the Wallerfield Raceway in June, T&T now heads towards Barbados with 493 points, almost 80 ahead of Guyana (414pts), while Jamaica (369pts) has slipped to third.

The Cayman Islands (105) and Barbados (92), which last won the coveted Country Championship in 2011, are currently fourth and fifth . . . but there is good news for local fans: this year, drivers will only count their best three scores from the four rounds – the final is at South Dakota in Guyana on November 14/15 – which will balance things out over the season.

Sean Maloney, chairman of Bushy Park Motor Sports Inc which will organise the September meet, says: “We’re already seeing huge interest from all the participating countries and we hope to field the biggest and best-ever grids in all of the CMRC groups. However strong the regional entry is, you can guarantee that we’ll be ready for them!”

Tickets will be available from Tuesday 4th August.
