Fun hike up Boggy Peak ahead of the Mount Obama renaming and dedication ceremony.

Sunday, July 12, 2009 @ 9 a.m.

The hike will begin at the Boggy Peak private access road near the Cades Bay Pineapple Farm entrance in Old Road.

This fun hike will be one of the main activities leading up to the 4 August Mount Obama Dedication ceremony. One of the highlights for hikers who make it to the top will be the opportunity to sign the “Love Banner” which will be presented to a White House representative as an official invitation to President Obama from citizens in Antigua and Barbuda to visit Mount Obama.

Refreshments will be provided at strategic locations on the route leading to the top of the peak and a wide variety of local foods including the famous Antigua Black Pineapple will be on sale. Restroom facilities will also be located at various points.

“A Maiden Trek To Mount Obama” commences with a prayer and a brief overview of safety and precautionary tips that hikers must bear in mind. Educational pamphlets about the numerous plant and wildlife species on the mount will be distributed.
